Developed in close collaboration with Industry Partners, The FD (Arts) Creative Music Production has been developed as a vocational qualification, aims to equip you with the practical and technological skills required to make music.
It is part of a suite of Foundation Degrees in Performance Industries delivered by our partner; the Academy of Music and Sound, at their centres.
Part of the Performance Industries Pathways Scheme, FD (Arts) Creative Music Production is one of five foundation degrees delivered at the Academy of Music and Sound.
The course will provide you with an understanding of the demands and practices of The Performance Industries, whilst fostering your creative entrepreneurial mindset and intellectual skills, preparing you for work within this innovative industry. It will also develop your performance and production skills and improve your ability to use a range of technology appropriate to industry practices.
You will study modules focused on, Contextual Studies, The Entrepreneurial Mindset in the Performance Industries, Research and Intelligence in the Performance Industries and you will complete a professional work project, based on a topic of your choice.
As the course is professionally focused, there is less emphasis on traditional teaching methods such as lectures and tutorials. Instead, you will learn by participating in ensemble rehearsals, in-class demonstrations, practical hands-on application, listening, analysis, seminars/workshops, notation, independent learning and practice, out-of-class group rehearsals, field visits, peer critique, discussion forums, touring practice, and engagement with practitioners within the workplace.
You will take an in-depth look at entrepreneurship in the Performance Industries, investigating how you can make your mark in a competitive industry, as well as examining key issues surrounding music creation and production.
This Foundation Degree is ideal if you wish to progress your studies from a BTEC Extended Diploma or BTEC Diploma and/or A level studies in a performing arts or related subject.
Work-based learning projects help you gain valuable experience of this global industry by exposing you to the realities of the business world. You will also develop skills in how to start your own business with confidence and focus
The nature of the Performance Industries means that many musicians work on a freelance basis throughout their career. This course gives you thorough grounding and understanding of how the industry works and, indeed, how it evolves. The entrepreneurial skills that you will learn on the Foundation Degree will be of great benefit to you when trying to promote yourself in the future, and will enhance your employability and ability to become a self starter in the industry. On successful completion of the course, you will be able to progress your studies and work towards obtaining a further qualification from The University of Wolverhampton. *
This course is designed to give you vocational experience of working as a Music Producer. Following successful completion, you may progress on to a top up degree course.
As a graduate from this course you will:

International applicants are not eligible to apply for this programme.
Those meeting the entry requirements may be shortlisted for an interview at the Academy of Music & Sound.
Students must have studied a minimum of two years post GCSE level. However, it is expected that some applicants will be mature students with work experience, who wish to further their career development.
