This exciting new course has been developed with local manufacturing companies specifically to meet their needs.
The aim of this modern manufacturing course is to develop students with a sound knowledge of manufacturing and the underlying engineering principles that shape current approaches.
Graduates from the course will be able to demonstrate a wide range of skills applicable to all aspects of design and manufacture including systems analysis, product development and manufacture, costing, life cycle management and sustainability/environmental concerns.
The course is specifically designed for those already working in the manufacturing sector working with sponsors who are able to support the many work based learning elements integral to programme.
You will experience analytical and researched methods of working in a manufacturing environment. They will learn how to assess and make efficiency improvements and how to work in a sustainable environment within current legislation. Their dissertation will enable a level of specialisation to suit their industrial sponsors or could lead to further studies at postgraduate level.
Applications for this course cannot be proceesed via UCAS. Applications must be made directly to the University as this is an exclusive course designed specifically for industry.
This course is developed in direct response to the needs of the local and national industry. It provides the opportunity to complete a specialist degree within a 2 year period (the maximum period for completion is 4 years) whilst continuing employment and allowing you to put theory into practice. Throughout the course you will study in the University environment but you will also work closely with an industrial supervisor to contextualise your learning in an industrial setting. Whilst at the University you will have access to state of the art laboratories containing the latest manufacturing technologies.
This course is developed in response to direct industrial needs of a variety of industry collaborators from the aerospace and automotive industries. Focused on delivering to employees in these companies, it is envisaged that graduates will continue to work in the collaborating companies but the knowledge, skills and qualifications gained will prepare them for positions of significant responsibility that will require advanced levels of technical and/or management skills.
Graduates from this course will be well equipped to undertake a wide range of roles in the wider modern industry and will be fully conversant with the needs and methodologies adopted by leading manufacturing companies.
·You will be able to understand of key scientific and mathematic principles and apply these to the manufacturing discipline including the analysis and provision of solutions to engineering problems
·You will be able to analyse the performance of a range of manufacturing systems through application of modelling techniques, computer software and quantitative methods
·At the end of the course, you will demonstrate creativity in the design of engineering products, systems, and processes and apply an innovative approach to their physical realisation
·This course enables you to develop ethical solutions to manufacturing problems, addressing the prominent engineering, social, environmental, and commercial issues with reference to global strategic management and legal considerations
·This course combines theoretical and practical skills to produce manufacturing solutions that comply with prevailing quality standards and codes of practice
·You will develop a range of key skills required in practice including the ability to research unfamiliar subjects, effective communication, team working, improving self-learning and performance, and problem solving
GCSEs at grade C+ /4 in an English-based subject and Maths or equivalent qualifications (e.g. Key Skills Level 2/ Learn Direct Level 2/ Functional Skills Level 2).
Employment in a relevant sponsoring company committed to the ethos of the course and able to support the many work based learning elements.
