The aim of this course is to enable you to develop your knowledge and skills in caring for palliative and end of life care patients. The palliative and end of life care service is a dynamic and challenging environment in which to work. This course will enable you to more confidently contribute to the care of palliative and end of life patients and their families. The course is flexible in delivery to enable you to continue in practice whilst benefitting from part-time study.
Continuous improvement of care delivery to this patient group is paramount in the current agenda of palliative and end of life care and this is reflected within the content of the course. Throughout your studies you will be encouraged to adopt an enquiring attitude to your practice in order to ensure that patients and their relatives get the highest possible standard of care.

This course is delivered by palliative care specialists working within a specialist palliative care environment. You will gain current and expert knowledge, enabling you to improve your practice when caring for palliative and end of life patients and their families. Your personal tutor will guide you to develop your study skills, accommodate your individual learning needs and therefore improve your career prospects. You will study in a safe and friendly learning environment.
This course will build and develop your knowledge and skills, increasing your confidence in caring for individuals with life limiting progressive illnesses. Employers are seeking health and social care staff who can provide a high standard of palliative and end of life care in all health and social care settings. Hence you need to develop the knowledge and skills to enhance your employability. In addition, you will develop key study skills such as academic writing, literature searching, communication skills and early critical skills. You will improve your IT skills, time management skills, your ability to problem solve and work as part of a team. Participating in academic study enables you to develop transferable skills which are valued by employers and will enhance your employment prospects.
Successful completion of the Certificate in Developing Palliative and End of Life Care Practice will provide you with the opportunity to then access level 5 (diploma) academic studies.
