This one-year top-up focuses on developing a set of skills to help you establish a career within the rapidly growing music industry with a music industry employer, or in a self employed capacity and is ideal if you have already completed some higher education study in Sound Production of Music Technology, or our Foundation Degree (Arts) Sound Production.
Throughout the course, you will develop strong business acumen and the skills needed to support music events. You will complete a sound recording project and undetake in-depth study of live sound design, live sound reinforcement, and music for image – a particularly creative and popular aspect of the course. You will be exposed to a wide cross section of skills relevant to gaining a foothold in the music industry, concentrating on topics such as the music business, entrepreneurial skills, music and mass communications and live sound system design.
The BSc Sound Production (Top-Up) degree prepares you for a career in the music industry through engagement with a range of workshops, lectures and seminars that develop entrepreneurial skills and music production expertise. Experienced staff will encourage and stimulate your interest and passion for the music industry and will help sharpen your employability profile during your studies. As a provider of music education, we are aware of the challenges you face as a learner in the 21st century so this course has been structured in a way that is contemporary, providing flexible study patterns to suit you. You will gain a fascinating insight into the world of music, broadening your horizons for lifelong learning whilst developing a creative and entrepreneurial flare ready to respond to the technological and artistic innovations of the industry.

A degree in Sound Production opens the door to a fulfilling and varied career that enables you to follow your interests and talents. Typical careers include: studio and live engineering, producing music, and designing live sound systems. You could also pursue careers in teaching, film, TV, music composing, organising and supporting music events, and managing artists. The marketing and business skills you will develop will help you to become a self-starter in the music industry or join an existing business.

Students must have studied a minimum of two years post GCSE level. However, it is expected that some applicants will be mature students with work experience, who wish to further their career development.
