What will I study?

  • The Music Industry Models and Roles module seeks to identify key roles within the music industry, what they do and how work is managed effectively. You'll gain an understanding of communication tools, applications and industry terminology together with the legislation governing the music industry, including the protection of intellectual property. The complicated logistics of moving people and equipment, costing tours and recording projects, together with people management issues will be considered in depth. You look at the increasing importance of video content and undertake a practical CD/DVD authoring project.
  • You'll learn about all aspects of new business development from financing to selling. There's an opportunity to spend time on a music business placement, gaining first-hand experience of the industry. A range of marketing issues will be explored, together with an overview of the e-marketplace for the selling of tickets, music and services. You also get the chance to produce a commercial recording or stage a music performance.

Entry requirements

  • Students under the age of 21 should have successfully passed one full unit award (eg. A-Level or BTEC National Diploma) and possess a pass at Grade C or above for GCSE English and Maths (or equivalent)
  • Students over the age of 21 need not have gained formal qualifications and are able to apply on the basis of relevant demonstrated interest or industrial experience, and will be invited to interview
  • Accredited Prior Learning (APL) is to be awarded at Level 1 only and must be supported by a portfoliof evidence
