Career and employability

  • You could work in performance, teaching, community work or dance administration
  • Positions held by recent graduates: Dance Artist – Cheshire Dance, Director – Performance Agency, Lecturer in Dance – London Studio Centre, as well as various teaching posts

What will I study?

  • In Year 1 you’ll undertake dance technique modules along with an introduction to choreographic performance and processes. You’ll look at the work of key innovators in theatre dance and examine the importance of health and fitness for dancers.
  • Your second year will deepen your knowledge and expertise in dance technique, and choreographic performance and processes. You will investigate methods of researching, and you may take modules such as Dance in Education, Dance Journalism, The Science of Dance Performance, and Dance in the Musical.
  • Your final year challenges you to think about your future audiences, considering dance in the community and other dance projects. Evaluating dance as a cultural phenomenon will in turn stimulate and inform your own work in choreography, performance and technique. Scientific methods of training the dancers of tomorrow, the role of dance in musical theatre, and dance video and technology may also be explored.
